The N.C. State Fair allows for yearly indulgences–especially of the deep-fried variety. Imagine anything on stick and plunged into a vat of oil and it will likely be available for fairgoers. This year, the big sensation at the fair, came once again from the Murphy House Restaurant, a fair vendor well-known for its fried creations. The “Fry Me Over the Moon” was akin to an edible version of the Russian nesting dolls–a moon pie stuffed with a Hostess cupcake, stuffed with Reese’s cups and Oreo cookies–topped with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with Oreo cookie crumbs. Old stand-bys, like the deep-fried Oreos, are practically considered vintage in terms of the deep-fried offerings at the fair.
